The blending of technology and natural surroundings is made possible by landscape design. The work of landscapers is to make attractive and functional public spaces, residential areas, colleges, gardens, playgrounds and parks. In addition they plan locations of roads, buildings, walkways, flowers, shrubs and trees within the various environments.
The elements of landscape design include balance, form, color, unity, simplicity, texture and scale. The design with the rest of the property in relation with the plants is the scale. The central part of design is color which brings life while at the same time creates mood. Color theory is mixing or combining of different colors to create specific color combinations.
Some of the color schemes that can be considered are primary, secondary and tertiary. The combination of primary and secondary colors is tertiary color while secondary colors are orange, green and purple while primary colors are red, yellow and blue. In the landscape design the visual surface or touch of the plants and hardscape is texture. Plant leaves, bark and flowers are part plants where the texture is seen.
The shape of plants in the design is form. Individuals plants break up a repeating pattern and low spreading plants draw the eye to the horizon are some of the plant shapes that influence the form to use. The other element is balance in which controls the color, scale, form and texture. There are two forms of balance which are symmetrical and asymmetrical to ensure the design is properly weighted. A more formal approach which uses a center line of the area being designed and creates a mirror image of the design on the side of the center line is symmetrical balance. Unity is the element that is known to manage consistency and repetition.
